Local Initiatives is a group of citizens moving forward on small-scale, decentralized solutions that directly impact local and global environmental issues.  The lengthy process and unavoidable compromise inherent in the political system has rendered both our local and federal governments incapable of responding to the myriad of urgent environmental issues, all of which stem from long-standing local pollution sources.  Though these problems are now of global scale, the solutions are still approachable through our lifestyle choices.  We must create change where we live.  Our meetings are a forum to propose community action projects. highlight logistical needs, and find the support to bring projects to fruition.  We are the people of Jefferson County and we have the right to act on behalf of the coming generations of our community.  We have the obligation to act now.

This projects aims to provide an opportunity for the Jefferson County Community to take responsibility for its own plastic use by providing local recycling.  We will collect clean plastics without the use of fossil fuel consumption and provide an opportunity to funnel it into infrastructure that will strengthen our community.
