Course: Resources for Managing Chronic Pain – starts Thu, Mar 5th
This 8 week course aims to help you manage pain and increase your quality of life. The class will follow the contents of “The Pain Management Workbook”, by Rachel Zoffness, MS, PhD. The content is based on research that has been made around the neuroscience of pain. Discussion will include how the mind works for and against our whole-body experience. Each week, you will have the opportunity to practice and experience pain control strategies that can help rewire the mind to lower stress, pain, and suffering- including various mindful meditations, breathing exercises, and conscious movement practices, as well as reviewing a chapter in the workbook. Free NAMI Family-to-Family Class – starts Sat, Mar 7th
If you have a friend or loved one living with a mental health disorder, this class is for you! The NAMI Family-to-Family course, offered by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI Jefferson County), is a free, 8-session program designed to provide families and caregivers with the support, education, and practical strategies to care for themselves and their loved ones. In this class, you’ll learn about mental illness and the brain, medications and therapies, amd handling a crisis, and what support services are available in our community. 8 Saturdays, March 7 – April 25. Village Class Weekend – Sat, Mar 7th & Sun, Mar 8th
Tradition and creativity meet in this two-day, hands-on community workshop. Choose from time-honored crafts such as bow making and archery, backpack basket weaving, leather shoemaking, or leather backpack making, and learn directly from a master artisan. Over this rich weekend, you’ll immerse yourself in your chosen craft, developing practical skills and creating a handcrafted piece that’s both functional and uniquely yours. Tuition: $325. Discover the World of River Otters – Sat, Mar 7th
Playful, intelligent, and endlessly curious, river otters are among the most captivating residents of Puget Sound. Join Sara Penhallegon for an engaging program that explores the hidden world of these remarkable mammals — from their family life and denning habits to their hunting strategies, play behaviors, and the ways they communicate with one another. Sara will share stories from the field and provide a behind-the-scenes look at what happens when otters face challenges in the wild. Learn how injured, sick, or orphaned otters are cared for and rehabilitated, and how community members can help these incredible animals thrive. Register here.

Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction Classes – starts Sun, Mar 8th
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is a mindfulness training program that helps access and strengthen one’s inner resources, to more actively engage in the moment, and find greater balance, ease, and peace of mind. MBSR is the original mindfulness course, has been exhaustively researched, and is considered to be the gold standard in mindfulness training. Local 20/20 Weekly Announcements invites local photographers to submit images that capture the character of our community and its natural setting. For the opening photo of each weekly email (which is also posted to our website), we seek local color, horizontal (“landscape”) orientation, and jpeg format. Please no children, pets, or recognizable faces. Kindly email your photos, including your name in the jpeg filename. If you’re sending multiple images, please send one per email. We are an all-volunteer non-profit, so compensation for your talent and generosity is a photo credit and our profound thanks.
