Polystyrene & Low-Density Polyethylene (“Styrofoam”) Recycling – Tues, Apr 23rd
Port Townsend StyroCyclers, a Local 20/20 Beyond Waste Project, collects white styrofoam (expanded polystyrene, or EPS), all colors of polyethylene (LDPE-4), white EPS food trays, and separated biodegradable (squishy) packing peanuts, but not crispy (EPS) peanuts, and no mixtures. Clean and dry materials only! Materials are inspected at the curb. Please remove all tape, labels, etc., before you arrive, and please leave plenty of room between vehicles. Please combine your materials with those of your neighbors and friends to help decrease the number of vehicles coming to these events. Email the organizers with questions, and check their Facebook page for weather cancellations. Volunteer with Port Townsend StyroCyclers! They have a big team so that volunteers can have flexible schedules.

Presentation: Grow Your Own Medicinal Plants – Wed, Apr 24th *New*
Come and learn from Ashley Kehl of Friends of the Trees Botanicals at the Chimacum Corner Farmstand’s Nursery. Featuring a presentation, Q&A session, and a nursery tour with Ashley and CCF Staff to bring the information to life, you’ll learn both how to grow and utilize your own medicinal plants. AAUW Home & Kitchen Tour – Apr 24th – 30th (Virtual Tour) and Sat, Apr 27th (Live Tour)
This will be the 26th annual AAUW fundraising kitchen tour. The Live Tour is through Uptown homes, modern and traditional, on Saturday, April 27. There will also be a 3D Virtual Tour, April 24-30, that features homes around Jefferson County, highlighting NetZero energy solutions and future-proofing aging in place concepts. The workshops/presentations include the themes Women in the Trades, Designing for Aging in Place, Emergency Preparedness, Passive Energy, Tiny Homes, and more. AAUW is working closely with Jefferson Transit to use the #11 bus to let visitors park at the Haines Place Transit Center, at 440 12th St, Port Townsend. There will be someone there to check in people who already have tickets. Folks without tickets will need to go to the Welcome Center at the First Presbyterian Church (open 9 am – 5 pm), which is close to the Fillmore and Franklin bus stop. Port Townsend Victorian Heritage Festival – Fri – Sun, Apr 26th – 28th
The Port Townsend Heritage Association proudly presents this festival as a celebration and educational event focused on Port Townsend’s heritage during the Victorian era. This year is the 28th annual festival featuring downtown and uptown walking tours, historic home tour, Magic Lantern show, fashion show, community contra dance, historic Post Office renovation tour, fascinating exhibits and presentations, afternoon teas in heritage homes, and more. Wild Church Port Townsend – Sat, Apr 27th
Sponsored by Quimper Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, join Katy Taylor to gather in and with creation, with other folks, and with the other beings on this earth. They practice together to move from human being to earth being, in reverence and respect for earth, on the 4th Saturday of every month. They meet outside, rain, snow, or shine, unless the conditions are severe enough to pose a safety concern. Please dress for the weather! There are three mostly equal parts: Greeting/Grounding, Wandering/Wondering, and Circling-Up/Sharing. Children are welcome, but parents need to help guide them. If wandering is not accessible, remaining in the circle is an option, too. Bring a chair! Discover Pass is required to park. Home Composting Classes – Sat, Apr 27th or May 4th (In-person), or Tues, Apr 30th (Online)
Join an engaging interactive 90-minute workshop with instruction on how to create and maintain a healthy compost system with food and yard waste. Create compost to amend your soil, retain moisture, provide essential nutrients for your plants, and more! Workshop cost is $25. Participants will receive a $125 Earth Machine compost bin. One per household, please. Participants must attend the full workshop to receive their compost bin. Additional family members or friends may attend at no charge with one paid registration. Available to Jefferson County residents only who have not attended a previous compost class with them. Choose from an in-person or an online class. Community Repair Event – Sat, Apr 27th
Repair Events are free community gatherings in which people with repair skills share their time and talents to fix their neighbors’ belongings. Volunteers donate their time to help with small appliances and electronics, textiles/clothes, bicycle repair, tool sharpening, and other household items. Limit of two items per person. If you know the specific part needed to repair your item, please bring it along. Bring your toaster that no longer toasts, sweater with a hole in the elbow, and excitement to get these belongings repaired while also learning how you could do it yourself next time!
