Preparedness planning doesn’t have to be cumbersome or intimidating, and what better way to put these philosophies into practice than with a fun, family-friendly, celebration? This event will include hands-on activities such as hands-only CPR, how to stop a bleed, how to move someone who is incapacitated/build a stretcher, and a bicycle flat repair clinic! We will also have presentations by NPREP and DEM on the *new* HUBS program and POP-UP emergency response systems. There will also be 30+ booths with local organizations and businesses, as well as a Family Resources zone with a free diaper drive and bounce house organized by the YMCA. Upcoming Events Creatures of the Sea & Shore: Youth Summer Art Camp with NorthWind Art and PTMSC – Aug 21st – 25th Get immersed in the magic of sea and shore in this nature art camp! In the mornings, students experience the outdoors, museum and aquarium exhibits guided by Port Townsend Marine Science Center educators. And in the afternoon, artist Mikal Robinson leads crafts, stories and games to play as we learn more about the ocean and all it’s delightful creatures. FOFF will be taking a beach walk on East Beach past the Wansboro Battery and discussing the river otter’s life cycle, behavior and where you might find them. If we’re lucky, we may even see one! Join them to help restore our beach to a natural state. Protecting our beaches includes removing invasive species that are choking out our natural grasses. The Park will be giving free day parking passes to any volunteer who does not have a state park pass. Please bring garden or work gloves and come ready to pull grass. International Coastal Cleanup, Beach Cleanup – Sat, Sept 16th *New* In partnership with WA CoastSavers, Port Townsend Marine Science Center is sponsoring 2 beach cleanups, in Port Townsend and in the Port Hadlock area. Volunteers collect and sort debris as well as contribute data on their findings to the Ocean Conservancy’s international database. Join them at either of two cleanup check-in locations: Fort Worden State Park or Chimacum Corner Farmstand. From these locations, they will send folks out to local beaches to collect debris!
