Froggy Bottoms Work Party – Thu, Aug 5th *New*  Join Jefferson County Noxious Weed Control to pull Tansy Ragwort, an invasive noxious weed, from this beloved wetland. Bring gloves and a water bottle.Tansy Ragwort is a Class B noxious weed. This means it is non-native, spreads quickly and aggressively, and must be prevented from spreading seed. | Community Notices Help Complete the Olympic Discovery Trail!  Support Peninsula Trails Coalition’s plans to extend the Larry Scott Trail to meet the Olympic Discovery Trail (ODT) at Discovery Bay, enabling riders, runners, and walkers to go all the way to the Pacific Coast at La Push. The Peninsula Trails Coalition has qualified for the “A Community Thrives Campaign” sponsored by USAToday and MightyCause. Public support and campaign donations made through August 13 will unlock grant opportunities so the all-volunteer nonprofit can take the ODT from 85 to 135+ miles of trail, which will also connect it all the way to the East Coast via the 3,700-mile Great American Rail-Trail.These new connections to east and west will bring recreational, environmental, and economic benefits to Jefferson County. Upcoming Exhibit: Witnessing Climate Change  Opening Thursday, August 5th and running through December at the Jefferson Museum of Art & History in Port Townsend, Witnessing Climate Change is an interdisciplinary collaboration between ornithologist George Divoky and expeditionary artist Maria Coryell-Martin, with support from educator Katie Morrison. The exhebition features 47 consecutive years of research by Divoky in the Arctic, as seen through Coryell-Martin’s artwork. Divoky has been studying the Black Guillemots of Cooper Island in Alaska since 1972, creating a unique, extended data set with compelling evidence of climate change. Accompanying the data are paintings by Coryell-Martin based on ink-and-watercolor sketches made in the field. Together, the paintings and stories illustrate biological, atmospheric, and person consequences of a warming Arctic.The exhibit will be accompanied by multiple programmic opportunities to engage with the content, artist, educator, and scientist, including an outdoor workshop and speaker panel. Housing and Sanitation Research Team forming  The Housing Solutions Network, in collaboration with PHLUSH, is looking at the intersection of affordable housing and the costs of sanitation and water services. Volunteers are currently reviewing Jefferson County codes and permitting processes, as well as the IAMPO/ANSI approved WE Stand code, which is available free for review through the end of August. This core team invites those with interest or expertise in greywater reuse and waterless toilet technologies to prepare a research and advocacy agenda to be implimented in the fall.
