We practice together to move from human being to earth being, in reverence and respect for earth, on the 4th Saturdays of every month. We meet outside, rain, snow, or shine, unless the conditions are severe enough to pose a safety concern. Please dress for the weather! There are 3 mostly equal parts: Greeting/Grounding, Wandering/Wondering, Circling-Up/Sharing. We will meet in circle, share some opening words, song, and practices, and then wander in silence. We then reconvene to share our experience. Children are welcome, but parents need to help guide them. If wandering is not accessible, remaining in the circle under the Doug Fir is an option, too. Upcoming Events Housing Policy Deep Dive – Social Housing – Mon, Aug 28th *New* What is social housing and how is it different than market and nonprofit housing? What would it look like here and can it be scaled to Jefferson County? Each month, Quimper Community Housing Collective (QCHC) will host an open, inclusive discussion on housing policy with an eye towards developing a systemic understanding of different housing policies from a housing justice perspective.Time: 6:30 – 8:00 pm | Location: Zoom Olympic Neighbors Porch Fest – Sun, Sept 3rd *New* Join Olympic Neighbors for a day of live music, dancing, family friendly activities (bounce house, goats, face painting), food and drinks, silent auction and cash raffle! Time: 1 – 5pm | Location: Jefferson County Fairgrounds River Otter Beach Walk/Talk – Wed, Sept. 6th Join Friends of Fort Flagler to learn about these cute and curious creatures that live throughout the Puget Sound. FOFF will be taking a beach walk on East Beach past the Wansboro Battery and discussing the river otter’s life cycle, behavior and where you might find them. If we’re lucky, we may even see one! Time: 9:00 – 10:30 am | Location: East Beach past Wansboro Battery at Fort Flagler State Park Snails: A Life of Slime – Thurs, Sept 14th *New* Jefferson County Master Gardener Foundation will present “Snails: A Life of Slime” with Ric Brewer, from Little Gray Farms Escargots. He will lead us through the history, biology and anthropological insight into snails and slugs. While snails and slugs are much maligned by many of us gardeners, Ric will teach us how these mollusks make significant contributions to environmental health, are bellwethers of climate change and much more. Time: 3-5pm | Location: WSU Classroom – Port Hadlock, 97 Oak Bay Road International Beach Clean Up, Beach Grass Removal – Sat, Sept 16th Friends of Fort Flagler is organizing an invasive beach grass removal. Join them to help restore our beach to a natural state. Protecting our beaches includes removing invasive species that are choking out our natural grasses. The Park will be giving free day parking passes to any volunteer who does not have a state park pass. Please bring garden or work gloves and come ready to pull grass. International Coastal Cleanup, Beach Cleanup – Sat, Sept 16th In partnership with WA CoastSavers, Port Townsend Marine Science Center is sponsoring 2 beach cleanups, in Port Townsend and in the Port Hadlock area. Volunteers collect and sort debris as well as contribute data on their findings to the Ocean Conservancy’s international database. Join them at either of two cleanup check-in locations: Fort Worden State Park or Chimacum Corner Farmstand. From these locations, they will send folks out to local beaches to collect debris! Disposal to the appropriate waste stream is critical. Depending on the condition of the tires, they can be made into new tires, tugboat bumpers, or ground into rubber that can be used in road mixtures. Details: tires can be on or off of the rim; no large off-road, semi-truck, or construction tires. Limit of 10 tires per vehicle; residents only; no businesses.
