Stories of Us: Camp Second Chance – Mon, Dec 19th
Join Meaningful Movies and special guest Director Melinda Raebyne on Monday, December 19 at 6:30 PM for an online screening of Stories of Us: Camp Second Chance.
In this powerful award winning film, director Melinda Raebyne embeds herself one winter at one of Seattle’s homeless camps, Camp Second Chance, challenging public ignorance and humanizing a population that locals would rather neglect, sharing with you some of their personal stories and her actual experience of what it’s like to be homeless. By putting faces to the statistics and a voice to their stories, she humanizes a population in ways that allow viewers to see themselves and better relate to a neglected and often “forgotten population.” You can learn more about Melinda Raebyne’s films on Facebook, Instagram. or through her YouTube channel.Zoom link for online screening.Trailer and more info.

Correction to Call for Artists! *New* (In Community Notices, see bold below)
The Artist in Residence and Educational Program (A.I.R.E.) is calling for artists to apply for the first residency term at the Jefferson County Transfer Station occurring June-August 2023. Inspired by the AIR program in San Francisco, Recology, Glean in Portland, and the Recycling educational site at Signal Mountain TN, the A.I.R.E. Program aims to provide an artist in residency to a local artist while the artist in turn, will help bring to light our issues of waste through creative processes. A.I.R.E. offers mining privileges for materials at the dumping grounds at the Jefferson Co. Transfer Station from June – August 2023. The artist will earn a $2,000 stipend and can exhibit their work for a weekend in September 2023. Artists will be asked to spend 12-20 hours per week (2 of those committed to education) in the small studio/office on site or in their respective studios.
The A.I.R.E. committee will be accepting application from Dec 19th, 2022 through Feb 14th, 2023. For inquiries and/or application, please contact us by email.
