The content is based on research that has been made around the neuroscience of pain. Discussion will include how the mind works for and against our whole-body experience. In this hands-on class, you’ll learn to craft a bow drill kit (which you’ll take home!), identify the best materials for fire-starting, and understand the anatomy of fire. Explore various fire-making techniques, including magnesium rods and flint and steel, while preparing to create fire in any survival situation. This is a great activity for parent and child! The first week’s talk is by Richie Steffen, “In Search of Excellence: Great Plant Picks for the Garden.” Richie is the executive director for the Elisabeth C. Miller Botanical Garden where he oversees the garden, its rare plant collections, and the Miller Garden’s primary educational program, Great Plant Picks. Gordon will reference the known history of shellfish aquaculture and USA history, and its importance to the economy and for employment, and why it has been relatively successful. Molly Jackson, also from Taylor, will discuss the technical side of the industry; our oyster breeding program and some of the genetic work involved with it.
