TLAB Meeting – Mon, Feb 24th
The Transportation Lab is a Local 20/20 Action Group working to promote a transportation system that minimizes need for personal motor vehicles. Such a transportation system must be safe, convenient and healthy, and it must be based on: people walking, the most healthful mode; people bicycling, the most efficient mode; mass transit, the most efficient for moving large numbers of people; and private vehicles for providing services and moving small numbers of people.

Sea Turtles in Washington? – Wed, Feb 26th
In recent years, SR3 has cared for several sea turtle patients. Discover why more sea turtles are appearing in the Pacific Northwest, how they navigate our waters, and the impact of climate change on their migration and survival. Casey Mclean of SR3 has over 12 years of experience working with marine animals and is the Executive Director of SR3, Washington’s first dedicated marine animal hospital. Register here.
Friends of Fort Flagler is a non-profit organization dedicated to restoring, preserving, and protecting the natural and historic resources of Fort Flagler State Park. Please support our state park by becoming a member, volunteering, or donating to our organization.

YMCA of Jefferson County Youth mentor Training – Wed, Feb 26th
YMCA’s Building Futures school-based mentoring program is hosting Mentor Training for volunteers. This program matches local students with caring, supportive, and stable mentors. Mentors and their “Buddies” meet for up to one hour per week on school grounds, where they play games, make crafts or “do art”, tell stories, and more. The program is designed to enhance social and emotional learning., Mentors can either work 1 on 1 with students or as a group mentor. Mentors are 16+ years old, caring adults, and/or retirees who want to make a positive impact in a child’s life. Pre-registration is required for this training. YMCA’s Children’s Advocacy Center Open House – Thu, Feb 27th
The YMCA of Jefferson County’s Children’s Advocacy Center is hosting an open house to showcase its new space while remodeling is underway. Come learn about the center’s mission to support child abuse victims and their non-offending family member(s), and envision how the renovations will enhance the environment for healing and advocacy. See, Sea, and Sketch Drop-in Series – Fri, Feb 28th
Come to the Port Townsend Marine Science Center’s Gallery in the Flagship Landing Building for “See, Sea and Sketch” – a series of sketching drop-in events! Bring your sketchbook and supplies to draw a variety of marine specimens from the PTMSC collection – skulls to birds to sea shells! These drop-in events are recommended for adults and children 10+ (all children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult). Admission is free, and donations are welcomed and appreciated. Stay for as little or as long as you’d like during the drop-in dates and hours listed below. This event occurs multiple times over the next two weeks. Jefferson County Home Builders Association 2025 Home Show – Sat, Mar 1st *New*
The Home Show is a great chance to learn more about how you can remodel, improve, or build a home in a sustainable way. There will be talks about Solar Power Innovations, Composting, Clean Energy, Spring Gardening, and Housing, among others. See here for the full list of speakers and exhibitors. It is a great chance to talk with local businesses about everything from heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, new windows, insulation, and other ways to improve your house’s energy efficiency. And come stop by the Local 20/20 booth to learn about various ways to reduce your energy bill!

Felting the Intertidal – Art with Porpoise: A Marine Science Art Series – Sun, Mar 2nd
In this PTMC workshop, participants will discover the complexities of the intertidal zone and meet some of the animals that live life on the edge. We’ll talk about ongoing threats such as Sea Star Wasting Syndrome and then get into the basics of felting. Participants will learn about different needles and techniques so they can shape their very own sea creatures. Registration required. Register for one or all workshops in the series. Space is limited. All tools provided. Classes appropriate for those 13+ but all ages are welcome to attend. We will have other art activities for those younger than 13. Recommended donation is $20 per person per class. This fee will allow us to cover costs of materials and staff time. We want this series to be accessible to all, so pay what you can.
