Beyond Waste Action Group Meeting – Wed, Feb 5th
The Beyond Waste Action Group meets the first Wednesday of each month at 10:30 a.m.-12:00 pm via zoom. The group looks at a number of issues including food-waste composting, plastics reduction and recycling, reduction of garbage on an individual and community level, and various other waste-related topics that spontaneously come up during the meeting.

Scott Wilson: Chronicling 100 Years of Port Townsend’s Maritime Legacy – Thu, Feb 6th *New*
Peninsula College’s Studium Generale East Speaker Series continues to inspire and engage with thought-provoking discussions and enriching presentations. For February, Peninsula College PT is thrilled to welcome journalist and historian, Scott Wilson, “Chronicling 100 Years of Port Townsend’s Maritime Legacy.” With a career rooted in uncovering local stories, Wilson brings unparalleled insights into the unique character of Port Townsend’s seafaring heritage and the ways it has shaped the community over the past century. This event is free and open to the public.

Workshop: Is The Problem Climate Change or Something Else? – Wed, Feb 5th
This curated video presentation is science and data-driven from the beginning and may lead one to personal philosophical questions and opportunities by the end. Time for discussion will be included and encouraged. This may be a difficult class for some as the full picture of our ecological predicament becomes apparent. This class is not for those looking for solutions but interested in the question, “How to Live and What to Live For,” given the information presented and the situation we find ourselves in. Local 20/20 Climate Group – Thu, Feb 6th
The Local 20/20 Climate Group meets monthly, on the first Thursday, in person or online. The group is focused on both reducing greenhouse gas emissions and preparing for climate impacts.

Karen Wright: Native Bees of Washington State – Sat, Feb 8th *New*
The 2025 Jefferson County Master Gardener Yard & Garden Lecture Series is held on Saturdays from January 11 through February 15. This year marks the 26th anniversary for the event, which is hosted by the Jefferson County Master Gardener Foundation, and co-sponsored by Washington State University’s Jefferson County Extension Service.
This week’s talk is by Karen Wright, “Native Bees of Washington State”. Karen is the pollinator taxonomist for the Washington Bee Atlas, a WSDA Pollinator Program that trains and partners with volunteers to identify and map existing native bee species in every county in the state.

The Benji Project Presents: Festival of Hearts – rescheduled for Sat, May 10th *Updated*
Help us spread our branches to reach more young people and families. Experience a palate-pleasing palette imagined by Chef Arran Stark and a participatory art project highlighting the visionary power of community. Enjoy beverages donated by Blu Jay Kombucha, Finnriver and Marrowstone Vineyards, along with plentiful appetizers.

Update: Due to the closure of Fort Worden Hospitality, The Benji Project’s annual event, Festival of Hearts, is postponed to May 10. The new venue will be the Northwest Maritime Center.

PTMSC & Trash Task Force Earth Valentine Cleanup – Sun, Feb 9th
Join the Port Townsend Marine Science Center and the Trash Task force in cleaning up downtown Port Townsend’s streets and beaches! Check in at 10am at Haines Park-and-Ride to receive supplies and cleanup locations, then return to the Pourhouse at 12pm to weigh your accomplishments and enjoy a free drink (up to $7) at the Pourhouse and a slice of pizza from the Pizza Factory. Front-yard Foraging: Edible Landscaping – Sun, Feb 9th *New*
Registration is required and will close 1 hour prior to class. Come learn how to grow a Food Forest at your home. Many PNW native plants produce food and look great right outside your front door. We’ll explore how to choose plants for your food forest, how to decide how much food you want/need, and practice creating a design for your space. Come join us!
