Local 20/20’s Neighborhood Preparedness Action Group (NPREP) has been working with the Jefferson County Department of Emergency Management (DEM) to determine how neighborhoods can best support the COVID-19 response. As always, our role will evolve as the event unfolds. For now, we want to make sure you are aware that the DEM considers our neighborhoods a key resource in an effective response.
Two roles for neighborhoods have been identified to date:
- Assist in maintaining a consistent message about the local situation
- Help our neighbors support one another
Each neighborhood is unique in its makeup, needs and resources. In an effort to support you, the NPREP team has worked with DEM to create a flyer that you can find by either clicking bit.ly/nprepcovid19 or typing it into your browser. It provides a section from DEM with links to the official national, state and LOCAL sites to get the facts. There is a section from NPREP that gives you some ideas and tools for creating your neighborhood’s response – whether you are highly organized or not yet organized. Finally, there is a section for you to update with whatever information you want to share with your unique neighborhood.
We strongly encourage you to start the process soon and we hope these tools will help those of you who have already started. We would appreciate your feedback for ideas and information to add to the evolving list that is found through links embedded in the flyer. Just address an email to nprep@l2020.org or type directly into that Google Doc. Let us know if you have any issues with these documents.
Note that you can print and post/deliver the flyer if that is what works for your neighborhood. It includes a simple link, bit.ly/nprepcovid19, that can be typed into any browser to get to the flyer and all the other links.
