The Secret Life of Shellfish – Tue, Jan 14th
Gordon King of Taylor Shellfish will present the historical significance of bivalves as a food source – the millennia of tribal usage and its current status today. Gordon will reference the known history of shellfish aquaculture and USA history, and its importance to the economy and for employment, and why it has been relatively successful. Molly Jackson, also from Taylor, will discuss the technical side of the industry; our oyster breeding program and some of the genetic work involved with it.
Food For Thought is a free series offered by the Quimper Grange #720 that examines “all things food” in our area. All are welcome – the Grange has ADA access.

City of Port Townsend Active Transportation Open House – Wed, Jan 15th *New*
The City of Port Townsend is holding a workshop-style open house focused on improving walking, biking, and connectivity in city neighborhoods. Parking is limited, so please walk, bike, roll, take the #11 bus, or carpool to this event! Whether you’re a walker, biker, or just passionate about connected communities, they want to hear from you. Local 20/20 Steering Council Meeting – Wed, Jan 15th
The monthly Local 20/20 Steering Council meeting is open to all, and welcomes those interested in active involvement in Local 20/20 leadership. Our January meeting will be our annual meeting, and we will review our accomplishments from 2024 and plans for 2025, all are welcome. Newcomers are always welcome. Video Game Console Repair Class for Teens – Wed, Jan 15th through Wed, Feb 5th
JeffCo Repair will be hosting a free Video Game Console Repair Class with the Port Townsend Library during the month of January! In this program, students will each repair an Xbox 360 for disc error issues. If time permits, students will also have the opportunity to repair game controllers. Consoles and all other necessary supplies will be provided for the students to work on. This program will run for 4 consecutive Wednesdays – January 15, 22, 29, and February 5th, coinciding with PT’s early release schedule.The class size is a maximum of 8. Mindful Self-Compassion After School Program for Teens – Wed, Jan 15 through Wed, Mar 19th
The Benji Project is excited to be partnering with the Jefferson County Library to offer this program to help teens gain skills and practices to weather the ups and downs of life with greater resiliency. Tuition is $250 and easily accessed full scholarships are available. No one turned away for lack of funds.
Classes are Wednesday afternoons with no class on February 19th or 26th. This program was organized to allow for bus transport! Students can take Bus 105 from the Chimacum Junior/Senior campus or the Tri Area Loop A bus from the Port Townsend Park and Ride (departing 2:00 pm). Registration and information is here. Emergency Preparedness Talks: Individual Preparedness – Thu, Jan 16th
What do you need to know about hazards in our area? Where can you get reliable information in an emergency? Things like earthquakes, tsunamis, winter storms, and more can occur in our area! Come and learn the basic steps to prepare yourself for a variety of emergency situations that can and do occur in Jefferson County. Cutlery Drive by Students for Sustainability – through this Fri, Jan 17th *New*
Do you have extra spoons, forks, and knives sitting around? Turn them into a force for good! Students for Sustainability, a dedicated bunch of students at Port Townsend High School, is collecting reusable (stainless steel) silverware to replace single-use plastics in their schools, because sustainability is served best with every meal! Let’s reduce waste and make a positive impact on our environment. Clean out those kitchen drawers and join the movement to make their school more eco-friendly! Put your utensils in the drop-off bucket outside the first floor door where the cafeteria is located. Walk across the courtyard from the parking lot on Van Ness Street

The Beauty of Weeds – Sat, Jan 18th
The 2025 Jefferson County Master Gardener Yard & Garden Lecture Series is held on Saturdays from January 11 through February 15. This year marks the 26th anniversary for the event, which is hosted by the Jefferson County Master Gardener Foundation, and co-sponsored by Washington State University’s Jefferson County Extension Service.
This week’s talk is by Mark Turner, “The Beauty of Weeds.” Mark is a freelance editorial photographer specializing in botanical subjects, especially Northwest wildflowers and gardens. Mark is co-author of Wildflowers of the Pacific Northwest, Trees & Shrubs of the Pacific Northwest, and the newly published Weeds of the Pacific Northwest.
