Humpback Whales & Bubbles Rings: An Invitation from a Watery World? – Thurs, Jan 18th Finnriver Farm & Cidery presents a thought-provoking series of speakers on meaningful ecological matters on the third Thursday of the month. Sip cider while steeping in planetary inspiration and possibilities for sustainability and earthly interconnectivity. The series starts on Thursday, January 18th, with biologist and author Dr. Fred Sharpe speaking. Dr. Sharpe, with the Alaska Whale Foundation, has been investigating the behavior of humpback whales for over a quarter century. Humpback whales release bubbles to catch fish and signal among their kith and kin. However, this mode of communication is poorly understood, as bubbles are not wielded by terrestrial animals. More information about the presentation here. Time: 6 – 7:30 pm | Location: Finnriver Farm & Cidery, 124 Center Rd, Chimacum Compassionate Listening Workshop and Heart-to-Heart Listening Circle on Israel & Palestine – Sun, Jan 21 *New* You are invited to join the Roots of Resilience Project for a Compassionate Listening workshop facilitated by Kirsten Szykitka. Kirsten has trained in Nonviolent Communication, Dynamic Facilitation, and The Way of Council, and has been practicing Compassionate Listening for over 15 years with a commitment to sharing these skills with diverse individuals and groups around the world. This one-day experiential introduction will include grounding- and intention-setting, an overview of core practices, guided visualizations, exploration of conflict styles, working with triggers, reflective listening practice sessions, and a group listening session on the conflict in Israel and Palestine. The Compassionate Listening Project teaches powerful skills for peacemaking. The intention of the workshop is to develop tools and internal resources to be present and hear others’ views with greater equanimity and empathy. They ask that you show up with a sense of curiosity and a willingness to listen compassionately to perspectives that might be very different from your own. This will not be a discussion of right and wrong, one side vs. the other, or even of possible solutions. Instead, they will offer the healing gift of deep listening, which can lead to greater understanding of ourselves and others. Suggested cost for the workshop is $25, $50, or $75 (sliding scale). A portion of funds will be returned to the Compassionate Listening Project to support their ongoing work. Participants are also invited to an informal debrief after the workshop at Finnriver Farm & Cidery in Chimacum. Register by filling out this form or by emailing Kirsten.
