Polystyrene & Low-Density Polyethylene (“Styrofoam”) Recycling – Tues, Jul 2nd
Port Townsend StyroCyclers, a Local 20/20 Beyond Waste Project, collects white styrofoam (expanded polystyrene, or EPS), all colors of polyethylene (LDPE-4), white EPS food trays, and separated biodegradable (squishy) packing peanuts, but not crispy (EPS) peanuts, and no mixtures. Clean, dry materials only! Materials are inspected at the curb. Please remove tape, labels, etc., before you arrive, and leave plenty of room between vehicles. Please combine your materials with those of your neighbors and friends to help decrease the number of vehicles coming to these events. Workshop: Characteristics of White Supremacy Culture – Begins Tues, Jul 2nd
Usawa Consulting is excited about their next workshop, an interactive four-part workshop which builds a shared understanding of Tema Okum’s “Characteristics of White Supremacy Culture.” It will take place every other week beginning on July 2nd and ending on August 13th, totaling eight hours. Cost: sliding scale $200-$300 (discount $225 each for groups of 3+). Flexible payment options may be available to make this workshop accessible; contact Usawa if you need to make alternative payment arrangements. Health & Wellness Group Meeting – Wed, Jul 3rd *New*
The Health & Wellness Action Group, also known as Citizens for Healthcare Access, is a Local 20/20 Action Group working to promote health and healthcare access in East Jefferson County, with a particular focus on local, affordable, quality healthcare, including behavioral and dental healthcare. The group generally meets monthly, on the first Wednesday of the month, via Zoom. To get on the email list, please send an email here. Being on this email list also means having access to member notes taken at Jefferson Healthcare Hospital Commission meetings and Jefferson County Public Health meetings. It’s a great way to stay informed on healthcare-related developments in the county.

Program: “Seals on the Beach” – Wed, Jul 3rd
What are those spotted furry creatures that we see on our shores? Where can they be seen? Why are they on the shore in the first place? What should you do if you see one? How can you help them? Join the Friends of Fort Flagler for a walk on the beach to find and talk about the Pacific Harbor Seals. This will be a fun-filled day of seal-watching! With luck, you’ll witness these adorable creatures in their natural habitat. Binoculars are recommended. This free event promises to be a memorable experience for all ages. Stitch N’ Fix Workshop – Fri, Jul 5th *New*
Do you have the sweater with the unraveling hole, the shirt with a stain, or the blanket with a tear? Come and mend them! Whether you want to mend in the company of others or need guidance on the best route to mending your belongings, volunteers will be ready to teach you mending skills and direct you to helpful resources. They will also have fun supplies and tools available to use, including a sewing machine! Please bring yarn or thread if you have it. Sponsored by the Port Townsend Marine Science Center (PTMSC), which welcomes participants aged 12 and over to this event. For participants under the age of 18, PTMSC requires emergency contact information and this completed liability waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Guided Low Tide Walk with PTMSC – Fri, Jul 5th
Join the Port Townsend Marine Science Center for a guided walk on the beach at low tide with Center naturalists. Witness the unique adaptations for life to survive and thrive in the intertidal zone. Downtown Port Townsend Walking Tours – Every Saturday in July and August *New*
Jefferson County Historical Society (JCHS) is excited to announce the summer series of walking tours which offer unique insights into the rich history of Port Townsend, contextualized with topics that will resonate for both residents and visitors alike. There are two tour options: (1) “Vanishing Murals” (11 am) brings to life a selection of downtown “ghost murals,” providing insight into 19th and early 20th century businesses, products, advertisers, sign painters, typeface, and more; and (2) “Legends & Lore” (2 pm) dives into Port Townsend’s past through popular stories of lore, each paired with historical investigation illuminating how Port Townsend’s history is known – and what may always remain a mystery. The tours are every Saturday in July and August and last 90 minutes. Routes are less than a mile and are ADA accessible. Cost is $15 for JCHS members and $20 for non-members.
