Submit Questions for City Council Primary Candidates Forum – by Mon, Jul 14th *Updated*
The League of Women Voters of Jefferson County believes everyone should have a chance to hear the candidates respond to questions live and invites everyone in Port Townsend to submit questions for the July 16 City Council Candidate Zoom Forum, which will feature candidates Fred Obee, Mikki Porter, and Dylan Quarles. Submit your questions to this email addressno later than noon July 14. Links to the forum, which will begin at 6:00 PM on July 16th, are posted on the League’s website. Media partner KPTZ 91.9 FM will simulcast the forum and livestream it, or you can use the Zoom links to watch via your computer, tablet, or phone. The forum will also be recorded and linked on the LWVJC website.
Women-Trans-Femme Access Nights at the ReCyclery – starting Tue, Jul 15th *New*
The ReCyclery DIY Community shop is open for women (anyone who identifies as female) to work on bikes, make friends, and meet other women bikers on the 1st & 3rd Tuesdays of the month. The ReCyclery has tools, bike stands, and female mechanics to learn from as well as the shared knowledge of those in the room. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY. Access nights offer the opportunity to become comfortable in a bike shop. Questions and curiosity are welcome! Snacks provided. Suggested donation for shop time. Emergency Preparedness Talks: Hazards in Our Area – Thu, Jul 17th
Hurricanes Helene and Milton caused enormous damage and disrupted the lives of many people who believed themselves far away from such hazards, proving that disasters can strike anyone, anywhere, anytime. Laura Guth, CERT Program Manager, will present the various hazards and disasters, natural and man-made, that could affect Jefferson County and talk about some of the preparations and tools you can use today to prepare for these events. Common Ground Film and Jeff Co. Farmers Crisis Fund Fundraiser – Fri, Jul 18th
Join Jefferson County Farmers Markets, Port Townsend Film Festival, and Color of Sound for an intimate evening of learning, connection, and support for local farms. Enjoy tasty local snacks by Crust Bakery, an award-winning film, and gather with community. Following the film, a speakers’ panel of local farmers will share their experience with regenerative agriculture and crises that have impacted their businesses. PTMSC Block Printing Party – Sat, Jul 19th *New*
Join PTMSC for a block printing party! Learn the basics of block printing and create your very own prints just a stone’s throw from the Salish Sea. Staff and volunteers will be on hand to guide you step by step. Participants will get to hand carve and take home a custom stamp to use again and again! FREE. Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation practices – Sun, Jul 20th
Over forty years of scientific research around practicing these meditations has proven that the human mind has “neuroplasticity”, meaning: with practice we can change our outlook and attitude and see the resulting changes in our body: less fatigue, more energy and the ability to feel more balanced, even in hard times. This 2 hour introduction from Olympic Peninsula Mindfulness is offering a taste of these simple practices to help you understand and experience some of the methods and insights inherent in mindfulness to reduce the chronic stressors in life.
