Electronics Exploration and Repair Workshop – Thurs, Jul 18th
Do you have an electronic item that needs repair? Or perhaps you’ve always wanted to take your electronics apart to explore what’s inside or clean them up, but you’ve been apprehensive? Volunteers will have the space, tools, and volunteer expertise to help you. If you don’t have your own machine to take apart, they’ve got extras that will be available to explore freely! For this workshop, you will be at the helm of repairing and exploring your belongings. Volunteers will help guide you in finding the resources you’ll need, answer questions, and support you with the skills that may be necessary to complete your goal/repair. This is a drop-in workshop, so feel free to come and go as you please, but do allow yourself enough time to complete your project. Electronics that would be appropriate to bring are items like video game consoles, laptops, printers, etc. Sponsored by the Port Townsend Marine Science Center (PTMSC), which welcomes participants aged 12 and over to this event. For participants under age 18, PTMSC requires emergency contact information and this completed liability waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Bring #2 shovel-long handle, tined garden scratcher, separate small or medium size bucket (each digger must have their own container), gloves (rubber garden gloves are best but not required), and shellfish license if over 16 years old. Jefferson County Historical Society (JCHS) is excited to announce the summer series of walking tours which offer unique insights into the rich history of Port Townsend, contextualized with topics that will resonate for both residents and visitors alike. There are two tour options: (1) “Vanishing Murals” (11 am) brings to life a selection of downtown “ghost murals,” providing insight into 19th and early 20th century businesses, products, advertisers, sign painters, typeface, and more; and (2) “Legends & Lore” (2 pm) dives into Port Townsend’s past through popular stories of lore, each paired with historical investigation illuminating how Port Townsend’s history is known – and what may always remain a mystery. The tours are every Saturday in July and August and last 90 minutes. Routes are less than a mile and are ADA accessible. Cost is $15 for JCHS members and $20 for non-members. More info and tickets here. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. Can’t make it Saturdays? JCHS also offers private walking tours that can be arranged by reservation; click on this link.
