This Week Transportation Lab Meeting – Mon, July 24th The Transportation Lab is a Local 20/20 Action Group working to promote a transportation system that minimizes the need for personal motor vehicles. Such a transportation system must be safe, convenient and healthy, and it must be based on: Walking, the most healthful mode; Bicycling, the most efficient mode; Mass transit, the most efficient for moving large numbers of people; and A vastly reduced personal and service VMT (vehicle miles traveled) In person, monthly on the fourth Monday. Time: 4:30-6:00 | Location: In person. Contact them for the address. Mindfulness in Motion Summer Camp – July 24th-28th Join The Benji Project at Mindfulness in Motion Summer Camp. Open to youth ages 11 to 14 from July 24-28 from 1-5pm at the beautiful Fort Townsend State Park. Explore concepts of mindful self-compassion through art, games, nature exploration, and reflection. Camp tuition is $250 with full and partial scholarships available and no one turned away for lack of funds. We’ll be exploring tide pools and learning how marine organisms are adapted for the challenges and daily extremes of living in the intertidal zone.Find dates for ALL the low tide walks on our website. River Otter Beach Walk/Talk – Sun, July 30th Join us to learn about these cute and curious creatures that live throughout the Puget Sound. We will be taking a beach walk on East Beach past the Wansboro Battery and discussing the river otter’s life cycle, behavior and where you might find them. If we are lucky, we may even see one! Bring comfortable shoes, warm clothes and a rain jacket. Register Time: 9:00 AM | Location: Fort Flagler Historical State Park-East Beach past Wansboro Battery Local 20/20 Climate Working Group Meeting – Mon, July 31st The Local 20/20 Climate working group’s scope includes reducing greenhouse gases, increasing carbon sequestration, and preparing for climate impacts. We’ll continue to work some of the projects discussed at the June meeting, ongoing projects, and discuss ideas for future actions and activities. Newcomers are most welcome! Each month, Quimper Community Housing Collective (QCHC) will host an open, inclusive discussion on housing policy with an eye towards developing a systemic understanding of different housing policies from a housing justice perspective. We will practice centering those most impacted by the housing crisis in these conversations. All are welcome!
