The combination of high winds, low pressure and a high tide created quite the king tide on December 20. King Tides offer a chance to visualize the effects of a rising sea level, and Local 20/20’s Climate Action Group regularly monitors these tides. You can learn more about the project in this post. The photos from the project are shared on a website set up by Washington Sea Grant.
Below is Dave Wilkinson’s summary of the December 20, 2018 tide, featuring photos from Barney Burke.
Thank you, Dave, for this informative posting!
Man, those boat haven photos are crazy! Were they taken at the peak of the high tide?
Barney, the photographer, noted that the Boat Haven photos were taken around 12:45 p.m., Maritime Center around 1:00 p.m., ferry at 1:50 p.m., and Don’s pharmacy around 2:00 p.m. Note that the predicted and observed high tide was at 1:12 pm. (The wind peak was 11:24 am.)
