Award-winning Environmental Advocate/author Featured at Jefferson Land Trust’s Annual Conservation Breakfast – Thurs, Mar 16th
Jefferson Land Trust will present their 2023 virtual Conservation Breakfast. The program, entitled First, Fall in Love: What It Means to Love a Place, will feature noted environmental advocate, philosopher, and award-winning author Dr. Kathleen Dean Moore. This popular annual event will be held virtually via Zoom. Attendance is free, but reservations are required.
Dr. Moore will discuss the complexities of what it means to love a place, whether it’s a hushed forest, a high meadow, or a rocky shore. When so many of our beloved places are threatened by ‘development’ or decimation, our love needs to go beyond celebration to action. To love a place is to pledge yourself to its thriving, to defend it, faithfully, for all time. With video, music, and excerpts from her new books, Earth’s Wild Music and Take Heart: Encouragement for Earth’s Weary Lovers, Dr. Moore will offer her insights about how we can turn our love for our places into action for their protection.

How to Save Energy and Money at Home – Thurs, Mar 16th
Have you been feeling winter air seeping through drafty windows or poorly sealed doors? Are you wondering what the best steps might be to make your home more efficient, to save on energy bills and take advantage of incentives in recent legislation? If so, then join Olympic Climate Action member David Large for a virtual program on home energy efficiency. The program is sponsored by Olympic Climate Action, a grass-roots group seeking a safe, prosperous, sustainable future for residents of the Olympic Peninsula by addressing the threat of climate change.
Large, a retired electrical engineer, has 50 years of experience designing and living in energy efficient homes. For those planning on new construction, Large’s website details all the major energy-saving concepts he used in the design. But most of us live in already built homes, so in this program Large will focus on how to make existing homes more efficient. Large also compiled a comprehensive list of local, state and federal energy saving incentives that is under resources on the Olympic Climate Action website. Register here.
