Meaningful Movies Port Townsend Presents “Nuclear Now!” – Mon, May 13th
Nuclear Now! takes viewers on a mind-opening journey with legendary director Oliver Stone as he reveals the true history of nuclear energy and its potential to solve climate change. The looming climate crisis remains unresolved, and the amount of carbon-free electricity needed over the next 30 years is almost unimaginable. This film aims to remove the fears associated with nuclear energy and highlight the sustainability and affordability it can bring in the pursuit of restoring the world’s ecosystems and economies. Port Townsend Marine Science Center Volunteer Interest Meeting – Tues, May 14th
Interested in sharing your love for the Salish Sea with visitors to the Port Townsend Marine Science Center’s (PTMSC’s) museum or aquarium? Curious about our near-shore habitat? PTMSC is holding a volunteer interest meeting. Learn about current opportunities for volunteers, including museum greeters and docents, aquarium greeters and docents, low tide walk interpreters, and intertidal monitoring surveys. The meeting will include a tour of the aquarium at Fort Worden. People with science backgrounds, customer service, or teaching experience are encouraged to attend, but all with an interest in Salish Sea conservation are welcome. Climate Cafe – Tues, May 14th
Feeling overwhelmed by the climate crisis? Come to a climate cafe, a welcoming space for people concerned about the climate crisis and its impact at all levels. With a focus on feelings, a climate cafe is a safe space for people to share their emotions. Talking with others helps build emotional resilience in uncertain times. The cafe is a structured, facilitated group space for reflection. Discussion will be facilitated by Karen Richards, LMFT, a climate-aware therapist from Hearth Natural Medicine, and Allison Krizner, MA, holistic coach and grief counselor. Space is limited. $10 suggested donation. No one turned away for lack of funds. Port Townsend Chautauqua Is Coming and Needs Volunteers – Tues, May 14th, through Sun, May 19th
The Port Townsend Chautauqua will present festivities including two Big Shows, one Dance Party, and countless free community workshops, including circus arts, Indigenous storytellers, local history, and explorations of our connections to forest and land. Local 20/20 Council Meeting – Wed, May 15th

Birding by Ear – Wed, May 15th
Have you ever heard a bird in the forest but couldn’t see it and wondered what it was? Join ornithologist Dr. Jackie Canterbury as she leads tours through Quimper West Preserve in the Quimper Wildlife Corridor, and shows how by training your ear you can identify birds through their unique songs. Preserve Steward Wendy Feltham and a Jefferson Land Trust staff member will welcome the group at the Quimper West trailhead and share information about the area before the walk. There is no cost to attend, but space is limited to 15 people, and you must register in advance. Wait list submissions will be taken. Another tour will be offered on June 1st; you may sign up for more than one tour. To register, visit here.

Friction Fire Workshop – Sat, May 18th
Join CedarRoot School for a one day workshop exploring the art of primitive fire making and take home a functioning bow drill kit! They will focus on the anatomy of fire (tinder bundle, kindling species, etc.) and other fire-making tools (magnesium rods, flint, and steel) as well as look at other primitive fire making tools. Students will learn how to craft a fire in even the harshest survival conditions. Tuition: $160.00. Full description & registration here. Send questions here.
