This Week TLAB Meeting – Mon, Nov 25th The Transportation Lab is a Local 20/20 Action Group working to promote a transportation system that minimizes need for personal motor vehicles. Such a transportation system must be safe, convenient and healthy, and it must be based on: people walking, the most healthful mode; people bicycling, the most efficient mode; mass transit, the most efficient for moving large numbers of people; and private vehicles for providing services and moving small numbers of people. Upcoming Events Consider Supporting Local 20/20 On Giving Tuesday – Tues, Dec 3rd *New* As we enter this season of Thanksgiving, Local 20/20 wants to thank you all for caring for our community! We are so thankful to be part of a community filled with passionate, thoughtful, and environmentally conscious folks! Your support during this giving season, whether through financial contributions or volunteer efforts, would help us implement our mission of “Working together to foster a regenerative, sustainable, resilient, equitable, and inclusive community in Jefferson County through both action and education“. There are various ways you can help make a difference. Donations help us cover essential costs and provide support for our action groups and special projects. And we are always looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our action groups. Keep an eye out for upcoming meetings and find a group that aligns with your interests. Other volunteer opportunities are also available, including assisting in website management, newsletter creation, or becoming actively engaged in our steering council. Beyond Waste Action Group Meeting – Wed, Dec 4th The Beyond Waste Action Group meets the first Wednesday of each month at 10:30 a.m.-12:00 pm via zoom. The group looks at a number of issues including food-waste composting, plastics reduction and recycling, reduction of garbage on an individual and community level, and various other waste-related topics that spontaneously come up during the meeting. Time: 10:30am – 12pm | Zoom, email for link Local 20/20 Climate Group – Thu, Dec 5th The Local 20/20 Climate Group meets monthly, on the first Thursday, in person or online. The group is focused on both reducing greenhouse gas emissions and preparing for climate impacts. Time: 5:00 – 6:30pm | Location: email for details Learning to Weave with Willow – Sat, Dec 7th Join local farmer and weaver Rachael Van Laanen for a day of creating small projects that help participants become accustomed to working with willow. Techniques learned are essential building blocks for all other willow basket projects. A great class for parents and kids 10 and up! (minors must be accompanied by a registered adult). Bring your toaster that no longer toasts, sweater with a hole in the elbow, and excitement to get these belongings repaired while also learning how they did it and ways you could do it yourself next time! Time: 12 – 3pm | Location: Quilcene Community Center, 294952 US-101, Quilcene PTMSC Lecture – Sharks of Washington – Sun, Dec 8th Join PTMSC for this Future of Oceans lecture, presented by Lisa Hillier, Senior Biologist in the Marine Fish Science Unit with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.Washington is home to a variety of shark species, which play an essential role in the coastal and Salish Sea ecosystems. This presentation will focus on the sharks that share our waters and how WDFW is monitoring and managing these species. Lisa will also focus on new scientific research on two species that have moved deep into South Puget Sound and how climate change is shifting shark populations.
