Climate on Tap – Mon November 4th:
The session topic is “How Do You Talk Respectfully With Others About Climate Change?” If you can’t discuss what you care about with people who might disagree with you, what you going to do? What techniques and strategies are most helpful in having thoughtful, effective communication? Co-sponsored by Local 20/20 Climate Action and Jefferson County Public Health, this is not a lecture series, but a book club & discussion format. Each session includes information to get the conversation started, followed by group discussions that include what locals think and what locals plan to do. Disaster Preparedness Workshop Series – Local 20/20 – next one- Wed November 6th:
Are you prepared for a disaster? If not, come to these hands-on, detailed workshops in emergency preparedness. Local 20/20’s NPREP (Neighborhood Preparedness in Emergency Planning) Training Team, along with our friends at the Quimper Grange #720 are co-hosting a fall 2019 seven-week series in Emergency Preparedness. Sessions are ala carte; attend one, more than one or all of them! See also the Local 20/20 website for more info.

Repair Cafe: 2nd Planning meeting – Wed November 6th:
Throw it away? No way! Repair Cafe is a community event where people come with their broken goods in need of repair. Specialists are there to share their knowledge and fix or mend your item. Snacks and conversation are included. The very first Repair Cafe in Port Townsend is scheduled for February 29th, 2020. Save the date! The first planning meeting drew a good turnout and anyone who is interested is welcome at this one, too. For questions and location information contact Tracy. The Repair Cafe is hosted by the Beyond Waste Action Group of Local 20/20.

Local 20/20 Open House – Sunday November 10th:
Everyone is invited to join us at a Local 20/20 Open House to learn more about who we are and how our 11 action groups work together for local sustainability and community resilience. There you can learn about all of our different action groups, visit a variety of workshops, enjoy light refreshments, and more! We encourage individuals and organizations to come and add your ideas to the mix, look for opportunities to plug in with what ignites your passions and propose new collaborations! Watch our website and these announcements for more details. Please bring your own utensils and napkin so we can make this a zero waste event, and consider carpooling, biking or walking to minimize the event’s carbon footprint!

Beyond Waste Action Group – Local 20/20 – Tues November 12th:
The Beyond Waste Action Group meets the second Tuesday of each month at either 10:30 a.m.-12:00 or 7pm-8:30pm, depending on the month. The group looks at a number of issues including food-waste composting, plastics reduction and recycling, reduction of garbage on an individual and community level, and various other waste-related topics that arise during the meeting. Newcomers are always welcome. Email Lisa for info on monthly agenda and meeting time and venue.
