This Week Sea Level Rise Around the World and Here at Home – Mon, Oct 23rd As our warming climate melts glaciers and expands ocean waters, sea levels are rising worldwide. Dr. Ian Miller, coastal hazards specialist for Washington Sea Grant, will present a program on the science and impacts of rising seas, including threats here on the Olympic Peninsula. Sea level rise is just one of the many impacts from climate change affecting people around the world and right here at home. Olympic Climate Action is a grass roots group seeking a safe, prosperous, sustainable future for residents of the Olympic Peninsula by addressing the threat of climate change. More information here. Volunteers will donate their time to help repair small appliances and electronics, textiles/clothes, tool sharpening, and other household items. Limit of 2 items per person. If you know the specific part needed to repair your item, please bring it along. Bring your toaster that no longer toasts, sweater with a hole in the elbow, and excitement to get these belongings repaired while also learning how they did it and ways you could do it yourself next time! How does development that prioritizes housing as a basic need differ from conventional affordable housing development? How can we effectively advocate for system change — for housing that is community-inclusive, community-scaled, community-driven, community-owned, and community-controlled? Quimper Community Housing Collective (QCHC) will host an open, inclusive discussion on housing policy with an eye towards developing a systemic understanding of different housing policies from a housing justice perspective.
