Have you ever wondered if your bike is fitting you correctly? The folks at the ReCyclery are offering a lesson that walks you through the process. The lesson starts at 6 and is optional. Bring your bike and leave with a better fit or just come work on your bike in a comfortable environment. Bring your curiosity and questions. Sliding scale donation with a suggestion of $20.

Emergency Preparedness Talks: Introduction to Disaster Injuries & First Aid – Thu, Sep 18th
Join JCDEM for an introduction to disaster first aid from the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC). Dave Codier, MRC Program Leader, will share an introduction to common injuries that occur in disaster situations, interventions available to the public and first aid supplies. Bring diapers (any size) or wipes to Jefferson County Public Health and help Stuff the Van to stock our local diaper bank.

International Coastal Cleanup Day Events – Sat, Sep 20th
On International Coastal Cleanup Day, volunteers from around the world will work together to keep our oceans and the life in them as healthy and diverse as possible. In partnership with WA CoastSavers, Port Townsend Marine Science Center will be hosting 2 beach cleanups for you to participate in! From the two check-in locations, you will be dispatched to local beaches to collect debris! Participants will receive a $5 gift card to the PT Food Coop. Olympic Disposal will be providing free trash services for this event. Register and find more information here.

Vegetation Zones of the Olympic Peninsula – Sat, Sep 20th
From crashing ocean waves to alpine peaks, the Olympic Peninsula is home to a stunning array of native plant communities. In this dynamic presentation, botanist Dr. Fayla Schwartz will guide you from west to east and sea level to summit, revealing how elevation, soil, moisture, and temperature shape each vegetation zone. Whether you’re a seasoned naturalist or just plant-curious, you’ll walk away with a new appreciation for the Peninsula’s unique habitats—and maybe even a few new favorite species! As part of a nationally-organized Sun Day celebration, Olympic Climate Action will host “Sun Day: A Celebration of Renewable Energy“. This will be an opportunity to see and learn about the many clean-energy options available for the home, yard, and road, many of which qualify for rebates through the end of this year. Local 20/20 Weekly Announcements invites local photographers to submit images that capture the character of our community and its natural setting. For the opening photo of each weekly email (which is also posted to our website), we seek local color, horizontal (“landscape”) orientation, and jpeg format. Please no children, pets, or recognizable faces. Kindly email your photos, including your name in the jpeg filename. If you’re sending multiple images, please send one per email. We are an all-volunteer non-profit, so compensation for your talent and generosity is a photo credit and our profound thanks.
