Housing Policy Deep Dive – Subsidies and Financing – Mon, Sept 25th
How is affordable housing funded? How does broad-based ownership of housing square with the costs of obtaining subsidies and financing (debt requirements)? Which funding strategies are best for our community and best for meeting the need for housing now? Quimper Community Housing Collective (QCHC) will host an open, inclusive discussion on housing policy with an eye towards developing a systemic understanding of different housing policies from a housing justice perspective.

Transportation Lab Meeting – Mon, Sept 25th
The Transportation Lab is a Local 20/20 Action Group working to promote a transportation system that minimizes the need for personal motor vehicles. Such a transportation system must be safe, convenient and healthy, and it must be based on: walking, the most healthful mode; bicycling, the most efficient mode; mass transit, the most efficient for moving large numbers of people; and a vastly reduced personal and service VMT (vehicle miles traveled). In person, monthly on the fourth Monday.

Donate Blood in Port Townsend – Wed, Sept 27th
It takes 1,000 donors per day to sustain blood supplies for patients in the community. Bloodworks Northwest holds blood drives in Jefferson County and elsewhere in Washington throughout the year. The next blood drive in Port Townsend will take place on September 27. Get more information and schedule a donation here.
Walking Tour of Intentional Communities – Sept 30th *New*
Take a walking tour of two Port Townsend intentional communities – Quimper Village and Port Townsend EcoVillage. During this engaging event you’ll have the opportunity to meet residents, hear their stories, and feel what living in a community is like. Learn how cohousing fosters a sense of belonging, promotes sustainable living, and encourages collaborative decision-making. This walking tour promises to be an eye-opening experience. Port Townsend Repair Event – Sat, Sept 30th
This is a free community gathering in which people with repair skills share their time and talents to fix their neighbors’ belongings. Volunteers will donate their time to help repair small appliances and electronics, textiles/clothes, tool sharpening, and other household items. Limit of 2 items per person. If you know the specific part needed to repair your item, please bring it along. Bring your toaster that no longer toasts, sweater with a hole in the elbow, and excitement to get these belongings repaired while also learning how they did it and ways you could do it yourself next time! Free Tire Recycling Event in Quilcene – Sat, Sept 30th
Used tires can be an environmental hazard. Disposal to the appropriate waste stream is critical. Depending on the condition of the tires, they can be made into new tires, tugboat bumpers, or ground into rubber that can be used in road mixtures. Details: tires can be on or off of the rim; no large off-road, semi-truck, or construction tires. Limit of 10 tires per vehicle; residents only; no businesses. League of Women Voters-Jeff Co Requests Questions for October School Board and Port of Port Townsend Candidate Forums – Due by Sun, Oct 1
The League of Women Voters-Jefferson County uses only questions submitted by the public in their Zoom Forums, and is pleased to announce that the following Candidate Forums will take place:
10/2: 6 – 7 PM, Port Townsend School Board Candidates Timothy Hawley, Nathanael O’Hara, Matt Klontz, Nancy Papasodora, and Simon Little.
10/ 3: 6 – 7 PM, Quilcene School Board Director-at-Large Candidates Anne Bessey, James Hodgson, Ron Frantz, and Ronald Jones.
10/4: 6 – 7 PM, Port of Port Townsend Board of Commissioners District 1 Candidates Chuck Fauls and Pam Petranek.
Please submit your questions by email no later than noon on 10/1/23. Concise, unbiased questions will be given priority, and questions on similar topics may be combined. Links to the October forums, which can be accessed by computer or phone, will be posted on the League’s website on 9/20/23. Media partner KPTZ 91.9 FM will simulcast the October forums and livestream them. The forum will also be recorded and linked on the League’s website a few days after the event. Artist in Residence Sculpture Reveal – Mon, Oct 9th *New*
You are invited! Come see and learn about the site -specific sculpture the Artist in Resident, Carol Rashawnna Williams created at the Jefferson County Transfer Station and learn more about the A.I.R.E. program. A reveal and short celebration will be on site at the Transfer Station. Though the Transfer Station is not open to the public for business on Monday’s, it will be open to the public for this event. There will be parking signs.
