Composting Close to Home: Community-Scale Solutions in Washington – Tue, Sep 8th *New*
As Washington implements new organics diversion requirements, community‑scale systems are emerging as a vital part of a distributed and resilient statewide organics infrastructure. This webinar will feature technical insights from Washington operators actively advancing community‑scale composting: Al Cairns (Jefferson County), Zoey Gray (Methow Recycles), Kate Wynne (B2G Compost), and Mike Smith (God’s Country Compost). They’ll share practical approaches and on‑the‑ground insights for building and scaling community‑based composting in alignment with statewide mandates. Keystone species for home gardeners – Thu, Sep 10th
Get the scoop on ideas for creating a native habitat in your yard. Michele Koomen, Master Gardener, will be giving a presentation exploring the critical importance of planting native species in home gardens to support wildlife, especially insects, which provide food for birds and other creatures. Citing research, Michele will focus on Keystone species for home gardeners, functional native plant landscapes, and offer multiple ideas how to create habitats for any size garden. Sponsored by the Jefferson County Master Gardener Foundation and WSU Extension.

Friends of the East Jefferson County Trails Connections Public Meeting – Thu, Sept 10th
Seth Sexton will give an update on the Glendale Farm trails system, recent grant awards, Chimacum Creek corridor drainage, and valley ridge view connector trail conservation work. A walkabout to see some of this work for those who want to see it will take place after the discussion. Discussion highlights will include: The Story of Glendale Farm, Conservation in Action, Grants that Make Restoration Possible, Trails, Recreation, and Working Lands, and Looking Ahead: A vision for a more connected Chimacum Valley where trails, farms, forests, wildlife habitat, and community gathering spaces reinforce one another.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction course – starts Sun, Sep 13th
Olympic Peninsula Mindfulness is offering this Fall program just in time to survive the midterm election anxiety! MBSR is a mindfulness training program that helps you access and strengthen inner resources, to more actively engage in the moment, and find greater balance, ease, and peace of mind.
MBSR includes the 6 hour silent Day of Mindfulness retreat on November 1st, 11am – 5pm. If you are an alumni and would like to take the course again, please get in touch! Sliding scale fees for the course are available Registration is required.
