| Upcoming Events Community Climate Listening Session with WA Climate Partnership – Thu Sept 3rd The Washington Climate Partnership and Port Townsend/Jefferson County Climate Action Committee would like to invite you to an upcoming Community Climate Listening Session. This event brings together community members, local organizations, and partners to highlight state and local climate planning and action efforts and gather input to help shape climate action priorities across the state and region. Participants will learn about the state’s recently published Comprehensive Climate Action Plan (CCAP) and local climate mitigation efforts, and have the chance to share barriers, opportunities, and successes directly with state agencies. He will deliver an engaging presentation on the remarkable role soil plays in our everyday lives. Learn how soil forms, how it stores water and nutrients, what nutrients actually are, and why soil is fundamental to life on Earth. Along the way, you’ll gain a new appreciation for the ground beneath your feet and the critical importance of soil conservation worldwide. This event is for everyone: farmers, gardeners, and curious humans alike. No one leaves unsoiled! Suggested donation $10 – $15, no one will be turned away for lack of funds. A walkabout to see some of this work for those who want to see it will take place after the discussion. Discussion highlights will include: The Story of Glendale Farm, Conservation in Action, Grants that Make Restoration Possible, Trails, Recreation, and Working Lands, and Looking Ahead: A vision for a more connected Chimacum Valley where trails, farms, forests, wildlife habitat, and community gathering spaces reinforce one another. MBSR is a mindfulness training program that helps you access and strengthen inner resources, to more actively engage in the moment, and find greater balance, ease, and peace of mind. Over the past 20 years, our community has been creating this overlapping system that works to buffer food insecurity. Copies of the book “Interplanted” will be available to purchase with proceeds going to the PT Farm to School Program. Time: see website for hours | Location: 1925 Blaine Street, Port Townsend History Hike: Dungeness and 3 Crabs – Sat, Sep 19th The Jefferson County Historical Society and North Olympic History Center invite community members to discover the history and cultural landscapes of the North Olympic Peninsula. Led by NOHC Executive Director David Brownell, participants will explore the intersection of natural and human history in the Dungeness area. Topics include the Dungeness River, ecosystem restoration efforts, the historic town of Dungeness, and the Dungeness Wharf, which once connected Peninsula communities to Seattle and Victoria markets. Each hike lasts approximately 90 minutes and covers 1.5 to 2.5 miles round trip. Participation is limited to 12 people per group. Advance registration is required. This month’s guest speaker, botanist and author Patrick Loafman, will discuss the native plant species he discovered over the past ten years that were not formally associated with the Olympics.
