Interplanted: Growing Foodies from Scratch by the PT School Community – Tue, Sep 15th
Author Mary Hunt will host this panel discussion which will cover the eating, growing, serving, and business of the plant-based activities inside the Port Townsend School District. Over the past 20 years, our community has been creating this overlapping system that works to buffer food insecurity. Copies of the book “Interplanted” will be available to purchase with proceeds going to the PT Farm to School Program. Joining Mary will be PT School District Food Director, Shannon Gray; Growers and Educators, Doug Van Allen and Rachael Dunn; plus Culinary and Food Enterprise Educator, Jen Kruse.

Braver Angels of North Olympic Peninsula invites you to join in respectful dialogue across differences, exploring questions like: “Will impeachment remove President Trump from office?”; Will Vice President Vance bring significant change to our nation?”; “What would be the most effective action that citizens can take to strengthen our democracy?”. There is no cost for this event. You do not need to register or be a Braver Angels member to attend. Braver Angels of North Olympic Peninsula Discussion Gathering – Sat, Sep 19th *New*
Experience Palestine through first-hand accounts from international volunteers with the olive harvest in Palestine. Hear their stories of what it’s like to live, visit and participate in life in Palestine before, during and after October 2023. Chris Shorne spent 2017 as a human rights accompanier with genocide survivors in Guatemala and recently returned from one month in the West Bank with the International Solidarity Movement. Her local paper did a story about it, which you can find here. Dessert potluck, beverages provided. Fragrance free zone.

LWVJC Constitution Day Event: Let’s Talk Money in Politics – Sat, Sep 19th
The League of Women Voters of Jefferson County (LWVJC), in collaboration with The League of Women Voters of Washington State, is hosting a Constitution Day event on the topic of money in American politics. Both organizations will present an introduction and slides about their work, and there will be a question-and-answer session. This free, public, educational event is affiliated with the civic participation events celebrating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the USA.

International Coastal Cleanup with PTMSC – Sat, Sep 19th
On International Coastal Cleanup Day, volunteers from around the world will work together to keep the oceans and the life in them as healthy and diverse as possible. In partnership with WA CoastSavers, Port Townsend Marine Science Center is sponsoring beach cleanups in the Port Townsend and Port Hadlock area.
Check here for a link to register for either the Fort Worden State Park or Port Ludlow cleanup check-in location. At your check-in location you will be given directions to beach locations, trash bags and gloves. Return to your check-in location: Weigh your accomplishments. As a thank-you, you will receive a $5 coupon for the PT Food Coop.

Far Reaches Botanical Conservancy Open Day – Sat, Sep 19th
Far Reaches Botanical Conservancy invites all to visit the gardens for a rare “open day”. A curated selection of plants will be available for purchase. The Conservancy acquires and conserves botanically significant wild and collected ornamental plants, with special emphasis on those that are threatened or vulnerable to loss and are new to North America. These plants are maintained as a living reference collection for education, public enjoyment and scientific purposes.

History Hike: Dungeness and 3 Crabs – Sat, Sep 19th
The Jefferson County Historical Society and North Olympic History Center invite community members to discover the history and cultural landscapes of the North Olympic Peninsula. Led by NOHC Executive Director David Brownell, participants will explore the intersection of natural and human history in the Dungeness area. Topics include the Dungeness River, ecosystem restoration efforts, the historic town of Dungeness, and the Dungeness Wharf, which once connected Peninsula communities to Seattle and Victoria markets. Each hike lasts approximately 90 minutes and covers 1.5 to 2.5 miles round trip. Participation is limited to 12 people per group. Advance registration is required. Speaker Series: Highlights Of Researching the Flora of the Olympics – Sun, Sep 20th
This is the third and final presentation in Kul Kah Han’s bi-monthly free speaker series focusing on the importance of planting native plants in your garden. This month’s guest speaker, botanist and author Patrick Loafman, will discuss the native plant species he discovered over the past ten years that were not formally associated with the Olympics.
