Good Grief Network: We Choose Connection – Mon, Jan 27th
Looking for alternatives to national events on January 20th? Join We Choose Connection, a free online event offered by Good Grief Network (GGN) to explore how to develop your own unique plan to manage these chaotic times. Overwhelmed by eco-distress and trauma from social and ecological injustices in our current predicament? These events are opportunities to create and receive peer-to-peer support. Join us to gather in community, process the painful feelings and realities of our time, and commit to meaningful action.

TLAB Meeting – Mon, Jan 27th
The Transportation Lab is a Local 20/20 Action Group working to promote a transportation system that minimizes need for personal motor vehicles. Such a transportation system must be safe, convenient and healthy, and it must be based on: people walking, the most healthful mode; people bicycling, the most efficient mode; mass transit, the most efficient for moving large numbers of people; and private vehicles for providing services and moving small numbers of people.

Connectivity Project Films Screening and Fundraiser – Thu, Jan 30th
Connectivity Project Films invites you to an inspiring and engaging fundraising event! Connectivity Project is a trilogy series of short films produced and directed by local filmmaker Rose Madrone. The project has recently been accepted by Public Television for programming options on all their stations; this fundraiser will help finance finishing standards, protocols, and fees that need to be met to bring this project up to broadcast standards. Register for Free Emergency Preparedness Course by Fri, Jan 31st
On Saturday, February 15th, 2025, Salish Rescue will be hosting the Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium for a totally FREE delivery of one of their courses: “AWR-144: Port and Vessel Security for Public Safety and Maritime Personnel”, which includes all course materials. If you work or volunteer in public safety or maritime fields, or have an interest in any related field, this class is for you! There are 40 seats available for this professional training opportunity, and we hope you’ll help us fill every one of them! Registration must be completed no later than January 31, 2025. A Wild Idea: Native Plants for Pollinators, Birds, & Wildlife – Sat, Feb 1st
The 2025 Jefferson County Master Gardener Yard & Garden Lecture Series is held on Saturdays from January 11 through February 15. This year marks the 26th anniversary for the event, which is hosted by the Jefferson County Master Gardener Foundation, and co-sponsored by Washington State University’s Jefferson County Extension Service. This week’s talk is by David Allen. David is dedicated to growing native plants of the Olympic Peninsula. David owns Shore Road Nursery in Port Angeles, and has worked in the fields of restoration and plant propagation for more than 35 years.

First Sunday Prairie Saunter: Native Plant Walk – Sun, Feb 2nd *New*
Walk at a leisurely pace, a round-trip of 1-2 miles, around Kah Tai Prairie Preserve, then out to Spring Valley Pond and back. See what’s blooming and what’s in seed at the Preserve, learn aboutthe ecology and cultural traditions of the camas prairie, and visit with other native and naturalized plants around the Park. Meet at the Kah Tai Prairie Preserve kiosk in the parking lot. Free and open to anyone, including leashed pets! For more information and to RSVP, email Kathy Darrow. Local 20/20’s 2024 Year in Review Summary *New* As 2024 came to a close, the Local 20/20 Steering Council took time to reflect on how we continue to fulfill our mission of “Working together to foster a regenerative, sustainable, resilient, equitable, and inclusive community In Jefferson County through action and education.” In this post, we highlight the work the steering council and five action groups (Beyond Waste, Climate, Health and Wellness, Neighborhood Preparedness, and Transportation Lab) did in 2024 thanks to the efforts of so many people throughout our community who have contributed in some way! |
