In Vigilantes Inc., Greg Palast and his investigations team bust the most brazen, racist attack on voting rights yet. Vigilantes Inc. centers on a terrible new threat this year to the right to vote: “Vigilante” challenges by self-appointed vote-fraud hunters, not government officials, who’ve are targeting well over one million to challenge and block the counting of their ballots. Most suspiciously, the vast majority of vigilante targets are young voters and voter of color.

MLK Day Invasive Beachgrass Pull – Mon, Jan 19th
Join the Marine Science Center for their annual MLK Day Service Event, in collaboration with Washington Service Corps, Friends of Fort Worden, Washington State Parks, and Washington Native Plant Society. Participate by helping to pull invasive European beachgrass that is in competition with our native beachgrass, one of the few habitats for verbena moths. Efforts will be focused on a section near Knapp’s Circle after first meeting at the Marine Science Center Portico. Snacks and water will be provided, please come dressed for the weather and bring any garden tools, shovels, rakes, or pitchforks you have. There will be some tools available to borrow as well. The Yard & Garden lecture series is a fundraising and educational community event hosted by the Jefferson County Master Gardener Foundation and Washington State University Jefferson County Extension. Meanwhile, in the West Bank – Sun, Jan 25th *New*
This past October Port Townsend resident Bob Alei spent five weeks doing “protective presence” with Palestinian families in the West Bank. The work involved sharing daily life and documenting incidents of settler attacks and harassment. He worked in three contexts – the urban setting of Al Khalil (Hebron), with Bedouin families in small villages in the Jordan Valley and harvesting olives near the village of Bourin. Join him for a presentation and reflections on his experiences with time for discussion. For more information send email to Bob Alei.

Mindful Self-Compassion After School Program – Enrollment now open
The Benji Project is offering a Winter After School Mindful Self Compassion Program at the Jefferson County Library for 11-14 year olds. The program will take place on Wednesday afternoons for 8 weeks starting February 4 and ending on April 1 with a break on February 18. Discover mindful self-compassion through art, games, and reflection. Explore ways to navigate the ups and downs of life through fun activities in a supportive community. Register here.

For the opening photo of each weekly email (which is also posted to our website), we seek local color, horizontal (“landscape”) orientation, and jpeg format.
