Jefferson Marine Resources Committee Monthly Meeting – Tue, Apr 7th
The Jefferson Marine Resources Committee is a county advisory board that meets monthly to discuss local marine resource issues. Public attendance and voices are welcome! This month’s guest speaker is Dave Nakagawara from the Port of Port Townsend, who will be speaking about Port projects as they relate to marine stewardship.

Friends of the East Jefferson County Trails Connections Public Meeting – Thu, Apr 9th
Join the Friends of the East Jefferson County Trails Connections for a presentation on new trail alignment through the Port of Port Townsend planned for 2026 by guest speaker Eron Berg, Executive Director, Port of Port Townsend. Eron Berg has new trail information to share that interlocks with other trail projects. Milepost 0 will be relocating from the Port of Port Townsend to the City of Port Townsend’s Rotary Park near US Bank and the Washington State Ferry Dock. This collaborative effort is under the umbrella of the Port Townsend Rotary Clubs, the City of Port Townsend and the Peninsula Trails Coalition.

Discover How Your Backyard Composting Helps Our Parks – Wed, Apr 8th
Join Friends of Fort Flagler for a special virtual presentation with Laura Tucker from Jefferson County Environmental Health, a knowledgeable educator who has led composting classes across the county. Laura will share simple, effective ways that individual composting can make a big difference—not only in your own garden, but throughout our state parks and surrounding natural areas.

Aquaponics: History, Approaches and Current Relevance – Thu, Apr 9th
Aquaponics — a farming system that combines fish raising and hydroponics — has been used in a variety of ways dating back to ancient civilizations. Lee Bebout, a Master Gardener with a doctorate in microbial ecology and a 20-plus-year background at NASA studying microbes, will share the basic “how to” components of aquaponics system, benefits and cost considerations as well as the broad diversity in approaches. This talk is sponsored by the Jefferson County Master Gardener Foundation in partnership with WSU Extension and is free and open to the public.

Port Townsend Repair Event – Thu, Apr 9th
Join JeffCo Repair for this free community gathering in which people with repair skills share their time and talents to fix their neighbors’ belongings. Bring your toaster that no longer toasts, sweater with a hole in the elbow, and excitement to get these belongings repaired while also learning how they did it and ways you could do it yourself next time!

Fort Townsend State Park Public Event – Sat, Apr 11th *New*
Join Washington State Parks to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Fort Townsend’s closure by reflecting on the park’s rich history. A descendant of the last caretaker will provide a unique personal insight into the last years of the fort.
The event is FREE, but Discover Passes are required for parking.

A talk with Cassandra and Chef Lissette Garay of La Cocina – Sun, Apr 12th
Join the Quimper Grange for a conversation about how locally grown grains become one of the world’s most essential foods — the tortilla. Owners of La Cocina, Cassandra and Chef Lissette Garay will share the journey from field to tortilla and how regional agriculture can shape the food we eat every day.
This free series offered by Quimper Grange examines “all things food & growing” in our area.

Hike Chimacum Ridge – multiple dates starting Sun, Apr 12th *New*
Join Tim Lawson, Chair of the Chimacum Ridge Board of Managers, on a deep dive, five mile walking tour to explore the natural history, geology, and future of 918-acre Chimacum Ridge Community Forest. The tour leads around the forest loop road with side visits to view points, wetlands, and areas of new planting. Expect four to six hours of moderate hiking; bring water and snacks. An ADA-accessible portable toilet is available in the Chimacum Ridge Community Forest parking lot, but there are no bathrooms on the trail or ridge.
