NRCS Soil Health Demonstration Trailer – Mon, Apr 20th
Jefferson County Conservation District is excited to welcome the Natural Resources Conservation Service’s Soil Demonstration Trailer to Jefferson County for an education demonstration! There is no cost and all interested partners, farmers, and the public are welcome to attend. The soil demonstrations will use a variety of tests to show the benefits of healthy soil as well as illustrate how different management styles can impact soil aggregate stability and influence infiltration and runoff.

Depolarizing Within Workshop – Mon, Apr 20th
Presented by Braver Angels and the Salish Sea Fellowship, this free 3 hour workshop teaches participants to look at their own attitudes towards the political “other,” to develop strategies for engaging in politics without demonizing, and for intervening in conversations with like-minded peers when those conversations stereotype or demonize the other side.

Searching for Seaweed Workshop – Tue, April 21st
Join the Jefferson County Marine Resources Committee and WA State Department of Fish and Wildlife to learn about the different types of edible seaweeds, where to find them, how to harvest safely and sustainably, and the basic rules and regulations to follow to help ensure seaweed harvests into the future. There will be a short presentation, then search for seaweed on the beach! Directions, parking, and other details will be sent to all registrants. You will need a current WDFW shellfish/seaweed license, bucket, and mud boots for the event.

Earth Day Molt Search Training with PTMSC – multiple dates starting Wed, Apr 22nd
Learn how to identify and report invasive European green crab sightings in the Salish Sea! Join PTMSC in a growing citizen science project called Molt Search, managed by Washington Sea Grant’s Crab Team & Washington State University Extension. Free, hands-on training and practice of Molt Search protocols, crab ID, and green crab basics.
Please dress for the weather, wear good walking shoes, and bring something to take notes with if desired. A Discover Pass is required except for Apr 22nd, which is a Free Day at the Fort. Register here. Email Hillary Sanders with any questions.

Bats of Washington State and Marrowstone Island – Wed, Apr 22nd
Are you curious about the bats of Washington and the species that live right here at Fort Flagler and on Marrowstone Island? This introductory talk will explore Washington’s native bat species, with a special focus on those most likely to be found in and around Fort Flagler State Park.

Earth Day Event at Finnriver – Wed, Apr 22nd
Join Finnriver and Local 20/20 for an Earth Day event on the actual Earth Day, April 22nd! The schedule is as follows:
5pm: Gather with a poem by the City of Port Townsend’s Poet Laureate, Rufina Garay
5:15-6pm: Explore booths from local organizations, play Earth Day Games, take a plant walk in Friends of the Trees Garden, paint the Abracadabra Trip Caterpillar bus!
6:00-6:30pm: Presentation by Richard Tucker, Executive Director of Jefferson Land Trust
6:30-7pm: Local Food Vendors & farmcrafted cider inspired by the land
7-8pm: Live Music by local musician Magic Mama Earth from the Abracadabra Trip.

How To Grow Medicinal Herbs Workshop Series – Sat, Apr 25th and upcoming dates *New*
A hands-on workshop series for farmers, gardeners, and herbalists interested in cultivating medicinal herbs at a small scale. Learn practical skills for growing, harvesting, and working with medicinal plants. This workshop is rooted in agroforestry and permaculture principles and is suitable for beginners and experienced growers alike. Three sessions for each season, attend one or all three: April 25, July 18, October 3. This workshop includes a field trip to a nearby medicinal herb farm in Chimacum. Cost: $90 per session or $240 for all three. Register here.

Community Past Life Regression – Sat, Apr 25th *New*
This is a gently guided, group past life regression experience designed to help participants explore memory, insight, and inner awareness in a safe and grounded space. No prior experience is necessary—just a willingness to relax and be curious. Participants are encouraged to bring items to create a comfortable “nest” for the journey (yoga mat, blanket, pillow, etc.), as much of the experience is done lying down. These gatherings are rooted in reflection, curiosity, and community connection. All are welcome.

Earth Day Beach Cleanup – Sat, Apr 25th
The PTMSC annual Earth Day beach cleanup brings volunteers together from far and wide to clean the beaches in the area. In partnership with WA CoastSavers, volunteers will collect debris and contribute data on their findings to the Ocean Conservancy’s international database. From either of the cleanup check-in locations, folks will be sent out to local beaches to collect debris! Find more details on our webpage. The first 150 participants will receive a $5 gift card to the PT Food Coop. Olympic Disposal will be providing free trash services for this event.

Far Reaches Botanical Conservancy Open Day – Sat, Apr 25th
The local nonprofit Far Reaches Botanical Conservancy invites all to visit the gardens for a rare “open day”. Visitors are welcome to look around, with a curated selection of plants available for purchase.The Conservancy acquires and conserves botanically significant wild and curated ornamental plants, with special emphasis on those that are threatened or vulnerable to loss and are new to North America. These plants are maintained as a living reference collection for education, public enjoyment and scientific purposes.

Night Watch: Fort Flagler’s Searchlight – Sat, Apr 25th
Fort Flagler’s restored WWII searchlight is seasonally displayed next to the park office. Because of its historical nature, it is illuminated only a few times each year, making this a rare opportunity to see it in action. There will be a brief explanation of how searchlights were used by the Coast Artillery Corps and how the mechanism functions, then the beam will be turned skyward and all can see it cut across the night.

Hike Chimacum Ridge – multiple dates including Sun, Apr 26th
Join Tim Lawson, Chair of the Chimacum Ridge Board of Managers, on a deep dive, five mile walking tour to explore the natural history, geology, and future of 918-acre Chimacum Ridge Community Forest. The tour leads around the forest loop road with side visits to view points, wetlands, and areas of new planting. Expect four to six hours of moderate hiking; bring water and snacks. An ADA-accessible portable toilet is available in the Chimacum Ridge Community Forest parking lot, but there are no bathrooms on the trail or ridge.

For the opening photo of each weekly email (which is also posted to our website), we seek local color, horizontal (“landscape”) orientation, and jpeg format. Please no children, pets, or recognizable faces. Kindly email your photos, including your name in the jpeg filename. If you’re sending multiple images, please send one per email.
