PTMSC Low Tide Walks: Guided Intertidal Beach Experiences – Fri, Jun 19th
Join the Port Townsend Marine Science Center for guided Low Tide Walks at Fort Worden State Park. Led by trained naturalists, these walks explore tide pools and intertidal ecosystems in the Salish Sea, offering hands-on learning about marine life and coastal processes during low tide. Free Nutritious Gourmet Meals in Jefferson County – Sat, June 20th – July 4th *Updated*
Beginning June 20th, for 15 days, residents and guests of Jefferson County will be able to receive free, gourmet, plant-based meals for breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner. Together Around Food is an innovative community program being pioneered in the State of Washington with the intention of spreading worldwide, and will run through July 4th.
Its mission is simple yet transformative: to ensure that every person in a community has access to nutritious, gourmet, plant-based meals — three times a day, seven days a week — completely free of charge. United Earth Networks and Veg PT have joined together with Climate Healers, Loving Hut, and several collaborating organizations to bring this to Jefferson County. History Hike at Port Williams / Marlyn Nelson County Park – Sat, Jun 20th *New*
The Jefferson County Historical Society and North Olympic History Center invite community members to discover the history and cultural landscapes of the North Olympic Peninsula. Led by NOHC Executive Director David Brownell, participants will explore the area’s transformation and learn about its former post office, hotel, wharf, and role in regional transportation and commerce. Each hike lasts approximately 90 minutes and covers 1.5 to 2.5 miles round trip. Participation is limited to 12 people per group. Advance registration is required. River Otter Beach Walk/Talk – Sat, Jun 20th
Come join Friends of Fort Flagler for a fun and educational beach walk and talk about the fascinating river otters at Fort Flagler Historical State Park. This in-person event will allow you to learn more about these playful creatures and their habitat. Don’t miss out on this unique experience to explore the beauty of nature and wildlife! MoltBlitz with Port Townsend Marine Science Center – Sat, Jun 20th
The emerging invasion by European green crab (Carcinus maenas) threatens shellfish and juvenile Dungeness crab, eelgrass beds which provide critical habitat for juvenile salmon, the food supply for shorebirds, and the overall health of Washington’s marine waters. Washington State University Extension and Washington Sea Grant have teamed up to launch a growing volunteer-based early detection program called Molt Search. Trained community members contribute to early detection of invasive European green crab while also tracking native Dungeness crab across Washington’s shorelines. Olympic Peninsula Mindfulness Forest Bath Walk – Sat, Jun 20th

Family Plein Air Art Class – Sat, Jun 20th
Bring your family’s love for the outdoors and creativity together in this Family Plein Air Art Class (French for “In open air”)! Join local artist Patricia Hagen to explore the stunning Valley View Forest in Chimacum. Along the way, she’ll highlight the colors, textures, and shapes of the natural world—helping you see nature through an artist’s eyes. After the walk, the class will gather at the Valley View Pavilion, where Patricia will share insights on materials, techniques, and styles, and guide you and your child to create your own nature-inspired artwork. This free class is open to families of all shapes and stripes! Art supplies provided free. Space is limited to 20 participants, so reserve your spot today! Calling Local Photographers!
Local 20/20 Weekly Announcements invites local photographers to submit images that capture the character of our community and its natural setting. For the opening photo of each weekly email (which is also posted to our website), we seek local color, horizontal (“landscape”) orientation, and jpeg format. Please no children, pets, or recognizable faces. Kindly email your photos, including your name in the jpeg filename. If you’re sending multiple images, please send one per email.
